Every student in the Singing Department works in individual classes with dedicated and experienced teachers in the development of the vocal instrument.

About Voice Performance at PRCM

Voice majors at PRCM study under a renowned faculty with vast experience in performing and teaching voice. Students also have varied opportunities to perform on stage through the annual production of the opera workshop, opera scenes programs, art song recitals, chamber music ensembles, zarzuelas, and Broadway musicals. In addition, students complement their education through language studies (Italian, French and German), body movement lessons, acting lessons, and stage presence activities.

Learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate high level competence in voice performance.
  • Apply foreign languages and diction competence appropriate to music styles and literature performance in solo and ensemble settings.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive capabilities about a variety of musical styles in solo and ensemble literature through solo performance and in a variety of chamber ensemble settings.
  • Synthesize both the history and literature of Western music and Puerto Rican Music within the framework of its sources and cultural influences.
  • Share critical assessments about voice performance by their peers, based on corresponding music periods and styles.
  • Demonstrate competence in leadership and entrepreneurship regarding professional practices in the field of orchestral instruments performance.

Admission to the university programs of the Conservatory of Music is based on the audition process and/or admission exam determined by each career.
