AUDITIONS 2026-27

 

The Opera Workshop of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music is holding auditions for the 2026-2027 academic year.

When:        Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 3:30 pm

Where:          Anthony “Junior” Soto Room

Pianist: Prof. Pedro J. Jiménez

Who:           Students from the programs will have to audition for

  • BM, in Performance in Singing (Classical)
    • those who are taking their third year of the BM from now on
  • Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance (Classical)
  • MM, in Song Execution
  • Area of Emphasis in Singing (Classical)
  • Tenors, baritones, and basses in their second year of BM studies, in Vocal Performance (with the approval of their teacher), are also invited to audition.

 

On the agenda are the Concert of Operatic Scenes (November 22, 2026), and the annual joint production with the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra (May 15-16, 2027). The repertoire will be announced later.

 

Hearing Objectives:

  • Provide the student with the opportunity to practice audition skills.
  • Provide the student with an additional forum for evaluation, in which the faculty can, more accurately, identify the student's progress and deficiencies.
  • Select the cast of the annual production to perform with orchestra. The audition process will allow for a more effective and informed selection among participants.

Materials:

  1. Resume
  2. Audition program (repertoire)
  3. Sheet music for the accompanying pianist

 

Audition Requirements:

  1. Execution of two (2) contrasting memory selections that demonstrate mastery of the vocal range corresponding to their classification. It is recommended that the repertoire encompass more than one language and that, as a whole, it demonstrate their technical skills, including the use of agility.
  • An opera, operetta or zarzuela aria
  • A second selection contrasting (aria or art song)
  1. Dramatic reading of the text in this link (Memory is not required, but recommended)

 

Grades:

  • Plan to arrive on time for your audition (10 minutes early)
  • Bring copies of your sheet music for the pianist
    • If the repertoire is not standard, Send the score to the pianist in advance.
  • Bring a prepared copy of the dramatic reading (see link above)
