The PRCM’s Jazz and Caribbean Music program fosters the technical development of the instrument and the fundamental elements of harmony, theory, improvisation, and styles characteristic of jazz and Caribbean music. Improvisation courses, arrangement, private lessons, and participation in various ensembles are part of the experiences that seek to develop to the maximum the potential and skills of students to understand and interpret all traditional styles of jazz and music of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

You will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the styles of jazz and Caribbean music, through performances as a soloist and as a member of musical ensembles.
You will apply knowledge about the history and literature of jazz and Caribbean music within the framework of their cultural sources and influences.
You will be able to compose and arrange music in a variety of styles of jazz and Caribbean music.
