The Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music is an autonomous public corporation under Law No. 141 of August 9, 1995. The Conservatory's governing structure is headed by a board of directors responsible for considering matters related to institutional public policy and exercising fiduciary duties over institutional assets, as well as supervising the Rector.
The institution's chief executive officer is the Rector, who has primary responsibility for ensuring compliance with the institution's vision, mission, values, goals, and objectives, and for administering and supervising all administrative, fiscal, and academic aspects of the institution. The Rector reports to the Board of Directors and reports to the deans and directors, who administer the institution's main academic and administrative areas.
The institutional administrative structure is organized into the following departments: Office of the Rector, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Administration and Finance, Office of Operations and Infrastructure, Office of Human Resources, Office of Institutional Activities, Office of Development and Public Relations, Office of Institutional Research, Alumni Office, Library and Learning Resource Center, Admissions Office, Registrar's Office, Information Systems Office, Preparatory School and Music 100×35.
The academic area is organized into eight departments: Department of Singing, Department of Strings, Department of Music Education and General Studies, Department of Jazz and Caribbean Music, Department of Piano, Department of Composition, Department of Theory and Musicology, and Department of Winds and Percussion.
The Academic Senate is the highest legislative and academic advisory body that recommends and approves the general direction and guidance of academic programs. Its function is to establish and modify academic regulations, as well as define and approve admission and graduation requirements for students.
There are other institutional committees involved in the academic governance of the institution. These are: the Activities Committee, the Admissions Committee, the Assessment and Strategic Planning Committee, the Scholarships and Academic Progress Committee, the Standards and Procedures Committee, and the Personnel Committee.
The Student Council is the forum that represents students before the administration of the institution. The main functions of the council are: to express the opinion of the students; promote student causes, both academic and social; facilitate understanding, communication and cooperation between students, faculty and administration and work on the development of proposals to improve the well-being of the students of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
The administration of the Conservatory encourages the participation of students in the following institutional committees: Academic Senate, Curriculum Subcommittee, Assessment and Strategic Planning, and Library.
