About the Master of Music in Orchestral and Choral Conducting

The mission of this graduate study program is to provide advanced training in orchestral and choral conducting, fostering high musical standards and broad intellectual and artistic development. The program is divided into two (2) separate concentrations: Orchestral Conducting and Choral Conducting. Both tracks of the Master of Music in Conducting program will be based on a student's undergraduate music study plan, to develop advanced skills in conducting techniques, listening skills applied to both score analysis and rehearsal, comprehensive knowledge of the repertoire musical and exceptional leadership skills.

Learning outcomes

The graduate of this specialty:

  • You will demonstrate technical skills and competencies in the language of conducting through the interpretation of orchestral or choral repertoire covering genres and styles from the history of music.
  • You will be able to understand and analyze complete orchestral or choral works through the study of scores, broad understanding of their historical context, in preparation for rehearsal and performance.
  • You will apply your advanced knowledge of music theory and have solid listening and score analysis skills necessary for rehearsal preparation.
  • You will apply knowledge and skills related to programming musical ensembles, planning an effective rehearsal, and the leadership skills necessary for its execution.
  • You will be able to found, form and serve as director of musical groups in various academic and professional forums.
