The Amaury Library Veray of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music joins the celebration of Library Week, and invites you to various activities that will take place from Tuesday, April 25 to Thursday, April 27, which include the Book and Crafts Fair, publication presentations, workshops and musical performances. Several talented and renowned figures, as well as prominent organizations, in the field of music, culture, art, education and musical research will participate in these three days, composed of, guests, members of our faculty and our students.
The publications will be presented: 1. “Praxial Concretism of Musical Education”, book by author José “Furito” Ríos Pérez, published by the Foundation for the Advancement of Culture and Education through the Arts. The introduction will be given by Professor Nelie Lebron; 2. The publication “Caribe Jazz”, by Wilbert Sostre Maldonado, about the contribution of Jazz in Puerto Rico and the development of Jazz Festivals. In addition to the author, we will share with Mr. Víctor López, director of the Afro Antillean Cultural Workshop Educando con Cultura; 3. The book “Cathy Berberian: interviews” by author Nelson Rivera, from the Riel publishing house. The figure of Cathy Berberian, mezzo-soprano and composer who performed contemporary avant-garde music, and the research process and the importance of Libraries in this work will be discussed in detail. Edder González, director of the Riel publishing house, will also participate; 4. Presentation of the Bomba book and workshop: “Stories, Bibliographies, Self-management and Oral Tradition: the Bomba and its Multiple Interiorities” by author Pablo Ruiz Rivera, co-director of the AFROlegado Antiracist and Educational Project, together with professor Jaime Bofill Calero.
The musical performances will be in charge of the: Percussion Studio of Professor José Alicea Espada together with Maestro Jorge Ramos Asillo on the piano and the students Javier Cartagena, Daniel Muñoz, Itzel Toro, Kareli Sanjurjo, and Janice Santiago. The Criollo Ensemble of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music directed by Professor Orlando Laureano will also perform. The students made up of: Clarinet and flute duo: Janice N. Santiago Cintrón and Melanie Piñeiro Anazagasty will also participate in the performances; Duo voice and classical guitar: Alondra Rivera Vázquez and Ángel Dimarco Zúñiga García; Voice and guitar duo: Jorge E. Morales Vázquez and Aurora Navarro Martínez. The clarinet trio: José Manuel Cintrón, Bryan Díaz Martínez and Jesús López Báez; Horn Quartet: Abdiel González, Francisco Betancourt, Josué Orozco and Gadiel Caleb Ocasio; and Flute, guitar and violin trio: Jeziel Berríos Picart, Alex Figueroa and Mitchell Jariel Soto Ruiz.
The Book and Crafts Fair will begin at 10:00 am in front of the Library, and among those who will have their tables are the Publishing House of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP), the Riel publishing house, the Afro Antillean Cultural Workshop (TACUAFÁN) Educating with Culture, Boricua Jazz, the artisans Iona Muñiz – collage; ICP artisans: Doris Moro – jewelry; Efraín Cardona – pens; Deborah Rosario – jewelry; Virgen Reyes: quartz and ornamental plants; Nashalie Hernández and student Mitchell Soto Ruiz – weaving.
