CMPR Alliance-PR Symphony Orchestra Signs Collaborative Agreement

Manuel Calzada and Melissa Santana sign the collaborative agreement. Through this agreement, an alliance will be created to expand the professional development of the institution's students, as well as greater exchange between both institutions, their faculty, as well as guest artists during the season of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra.

San Juan, Puerto Rico (March 14, 2024) – The Musical Arts Corporation (CAM) announced that it entered into a collaborative agreement with the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music (CMPR) to enrich the educational and cultural experience of students, as well as how to promote greater interaction between the educational community and the development of skills that contribute to the legacy of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra.

The signing of the agreement was carried out by the executive director of the CAM, Melissa Santana, and the rector of the CMPR, Dr. Manuel Calzada. Through this agreement, students of the educational entity will be given the opportunity to participate in the process that involves both the musical and administrative functioning of a symphony orchestra while the Conservatory will allow us to bring our resources to its campus, providing an ideal space. for other educational experiences. These will include talks, round tables, master classes and conference concerts. Workshops related to music, music education and artistic appreciation among others will also be offered.

“This agreement represents a joint commitment to promote and develop musical art in Puerto Rico, providing breadth to educational experiences. With this, Conservatory students will be able to participate as volunteers in the production of concerts, as well as be part of some of our projects such as the digitization of our Puerto Rican music collection, as well as programs and scores from our library. In this way they will be able to learn the administrative and production elements that a symphony orchestra entails, beyond the musical framework. In turn, the Conservatory of Music will provide us with spaces at its headquarters to be able to bring you talks, concerts and master classes. They will also receive complimentary tickets to our mid-season concerts,” Santana explained.

Through this collaboration, talented student ensembles will be invited to perform at the Pre-Concert series held in the Symphony Hall lobby as a prelude to OSPR performances. This opportunity will allow students to showcase their artistic ability and gain experience performing live before an appreciative audience. Additionally, students will be invited to the Orchestra's open rehearsals. This experience will provide the opportunity, in addition to observing the rehearsal, to participate in a conversation with guest artists, as well as with the musical directors. These OSPR-invited artists will be able to offer master classes at the Conservatory giving students the opportunity to interact directly with leading artists, learn advanced techniques, and gain a deeper understanding of their art. First-year Conservatory students will also be allowed to participate in the “Symphonic Experience” educational program, offering these young talents and high school music students the opportunity to sit alongside our musicians and experience what it is like to be part of a professional symphony orchestra.

CMPR students will also be able to provide support in the collection and rescue of scores, programs and historical material such as recordings, videos, among other projects, carried out by the OSPR Library. Meanwhile, the CAM will provide certificates of voluntary participation in these projects and activities to these students, thus strengthening their professional portfolio.
