Pete Rodriguez (born August 2, 1969) plays jazz trumpet and is a composer, vocalist, and percussionist. Critic Brian Zimmerman, in a review of the album The Black Count, wrote in 2015 that «"Rodriguez is not only an attentive student of the Latin jazz tradition, but also one of the talented young artists who will mark the beginning of the future.".
Raised in the Bronx, New York, Rodríguez is a jazz trumpeter and vocalist who now resides in Austin, Texas. He is the son of salsa musician, Pete "The Count" Rodriguez. He has acted with Celia Cruz and appears on Tito Puente's album Mambo Birdland, which won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Album in 2000. As a leader, his recent festival performances include the IX Jazz Festival at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, and with his quintet, which included Luis Perdomo (pianist), the drummer Rudy Royston, the saxophonist Gil Del Bosque and the bassist Ricky Rodriguez, at the Chihuahua Jazz Festival 2014.
Throughout his career, Mr. Rodriguez has distinguished himself through his artistic versatility, musical rigor, and contribution to the development of new generations of instrumentalists. His academic background—supported by specialized studies in trumpet, performance, and interpretation—and his performances on stages and in high-caliber projects have positioned him as a role model for emerging trumpet players. His achievements include artistic collaborations, participation in highly significant productions and performances, as well as a pedagogical approach that enriches the musical landscape through technical excellence and interpretive sensitivity.
