Dr. Juan M. Álamo
marimba player, Puerto Rican composer and percussionist graduated from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and the University of North Texas. As a marimbist and percussionist, Álamo has performed in various concert halls, museums, radio programs, television, festivals and universities in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Spain, Italy, France, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru , Brazil as well as in the United States. Dr. Álamo has published five albums: Remembrance (2007), Marimjazzia (2014), Pursuing Freedom (2016), Ruta Panoramica (2019) and Ensoñación (2021). In 2023 Álamo will be publishing his second marimba method titled Marimbissimo: Pathways for Developing an Integrative Musical Approach to Marimba Studies. The focus of this method is to develop harmonic mastery of the keyboard through the study of chords, accompaniment patterns, improvisation and composition. Additionally, Álamo is working on a recording project for marimba and big band that combines jazz, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and musical concepts from the contemporary marimba repertoire.
