This practical course focuses on the systematic development of the art of counterpoint within a tonal framework. The course introduces aspects inherent to compositional technique through the consistent writing of contrapuntal exercises and the analysis and listening of works from the Common Practice period (with particular attention to the works of J.S. Bach). The course explores the harmonic implications of two-part textures, voice leading, the treatment of dissonances, melodic structures, and aspects of harmonic organization and imitation.

(Required course for students of the Composition specialty, elective course Musical performance for other specialties. 3 hours weekly, group.)

Academic degree requirement:

Have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Music, Music Education, equivalent university degree in music or those comparable offered by universities.
