

The Professor Roselín Pabón He will be directing the premiere of the play The Fires of San Telmo by the Puerto Rican composer Hermelindo Ruiz Mestre in Spain. The work is presented as part of the 800th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral of Tui in the province of Pontevedra in the region of Baixo, Miño, Galicia, Spain.
Hermelindo Ruiz Mestre, an alumnus of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, composed the work in 2023, inspired by the fresco of Saint Telmo discovered a few years ago on one of the walls of San José Church in Old San Juan during its restoration. The fresco is estimated to date from the early 16th century. He will be one of the soloists, along with renowned Spanish guitarist Samuel Diz.
In addition to being a composer, Ruiz Mestre has distinguished himself as a guitarist, giving recitals in more than twenty countries. He currently serves as an artist-in-residence and professor at the Pontifical Catholic University in Ponce.
The work, composed for two guitars, string ensemble and percussion, premiered at St. Joseph's Church in 2023, was recorded and then released by a recording company in London.
The concerts will be presented on Sunday, November 30, 2025 in the Cathedral of Santa María de Tui.
