
Luis Quintana, Puerto Rican composer among the 2024 Guggenheim Foundation fellows
Luis Quintana, a former CMPR student, was one of the composers awarded the prestigious Guggenheim fellowship.
Quintana is an internationally awarded composer who develops his work in the field of contemporary music, expanding the borders of his musical universe from instrumental music to acousmatic pieces and immersive sound installations.
Winner of several international awards, he won first prize at the Moscow 'New Classics' International Composition Competition, as well as first prize at the Iannis Xenakis International Electronic Music Competition, the Martirano Prize, the Grand Prize of the art committee of Ise-Shima and the composition prize of the Académie des beaux-arts.
His work has been exhibited around the world and has been performed by ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, L'Instant Donné, Studio for New Music Ensemble, Illinois Modern Ensemble... and he has played at festivals such as Festival Manifest, Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Bienal de Musiques Exploratoires (B!ME), the Born Creative festival in Japan… and its catalog is partially published by Babel Scores.
In the past, Quintana has been awarded several awards, including the composition prize from the Academy of Fine Arts in France.
In 2010, after completing a bachelor's degree in composition from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, Quintana moved to France where he took postgraduate courses in composition at IRCAM and the National Conservatory of Music.
Paris, where he currently resides.
