Public services

Resource loans

Books, sheet music, records, magazines and videos.
  • Loans of resources that can come out of the library (circulation books and scores) are limited to students, faculty and administrative staff of the Conservatory. Preparatory School students and the general public can use these resources and the other collections within the Library.
  • Sheet music and circulation books are loaned for 30 days. They can be borrowed for up to a maximum of ten days.
  • A fine of 50 cents per day will be charged for each book or sheet music turned in after the loan due date. Lost, incomplete or mutilated material will be charged for replacement of the resource or folder, at the current market cost. In addition, an additional charge of $25.00 will be charged to cover the cost of the technical process necessary to reinstall the material.
  • Records, videotapes, DVDs, magazines and newspapers in addition to the Puerto Rican Collection and the Reference Collection are not loaned to students for use outside the Library.
  • Teachers are permitted to borrow discs and videos only for use in the classroom. These must be returned immediately at the end of the class.

Interlibrary loans

  • This service is only offered to students and faculty of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
  • The service of loaning resources is offered to other libraries in and outside of Puerto Rico. To request this service, or view usage policies and requests, visit the Interlibrary Loans section.

Faculty Reserve

  • Service provided to teachers so that they can make resources available to their students that will support them in their teaching-learning process. To borrow these resources, students must present their validated identification card when requesting the loan.
  • Reserved resources that are the property of teachers cannot leave the Library at any time. However, if the professor authorizes the student to use the material outside the library, the student must present a written permission signed by the professor stipulating the length of time the student will have the material borrowed.
  • Reserved resources owned by the Library may be checked out half an hour before the Library closes for the evening and returned on or before 9:00 am the next day.
  • Due to space limitations, teachers must collect Reserve materials that they own once they have finished using them. At the end of the semester, they must remove all materials from their Reserve, both those they own and those belonging to the Library.

Reference Service and Information Competencies Program

  • Individual and group orientations on the services and use of Library resources.
  • Guidance on preparation of monographs and bibliographies

Computer services with Internet access and audiovisual equipment

The Library has an area equipped with computers with Internet access and equipment to listen to recordings and use videotapes and DVDs. To request these services, students must present their validated identification card. See policy Use of Library Information Systems.

Donations

Donations are accepted according to the specific criteria established for the selection of materials. These are:

  • Space available for storage.
  • Quality and physical condition of resources.
  • Deficiencies that must be corrected in the collections.
  • Costs of the technical processes required to enable its use.
  • That they are complementary materials for the courses, works or methods of the study repertoire in the different departments, widely circulated works or works that deal with Puerto Rico or by Puerto Rican composers and residents of Puerto Rico.
  • The Library will reserve the right to evaluate the donated resources and accept or reject them. Those resources that do not meet the requirements so that they can be used in the Library will be returned to the donor or the staff in charge will dispose of them.

Current conditions for receiving donations (2016)

Due to lack of space in our warehouse, the Amaury Veray Library is not accepting donations. We make exceptions for resources from Latin American music, Caribbean music, and composers or performers from Puerto Rico that may be of value to our Puerto Rican Collection. If the donor has materials that could be part of these collections, they must submit a list of the bibliographic resources that they are interested in donating.
