The Clery Campus Safety and Policy Disclosure Act It is a codified federal statute. 20 USC § 1092(f), with the implementation of regulations in the US Code of Federal Regulations in 34 CFR 668.46.

This requires all colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs to maintain and disclose crime information at and near their respective campuses. Compliance is monitored by the U.S. Department of Education, which can levy civil fines of up to $14,000 per violation against institutions for each violation and can suspend institutions from participation in federal student aid programs.

The Clery Act, signed in 1990, was originally known as Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act.
