CMPR Message from the Rector

Dr. Manuel Calzada, Rector of CMPR

Message from the Rector of CMPR:
Welcome to the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.

We were born from the conviction that Puerto Rico deserved a university institution dedicated to music that could train artists of the highest caliber and contribute to the country's cultural development. That vision, championed by Maestro Pablo Casals more than six decades ago, continues to guide our path today. The Conservatory is a place where excellence is not understood as an occasional goal, but as a way of learning, creating, and experiencing art. Every class, every rehearsal, every recital, and every conversation is part of an educational process designed to develop musicians capable of excelling on any stage in the world.
Our commitment is expressed through rigorous, personalized, and profoundly enriching artistic training. Our students learn from a faculty comprised of distinguished performers, composers, researchers, and educators; they participate in a vibrant artistic life and find an environment that constantly challenges them to discover the full potential of their talent.

Our graduates are now part of important orchestras, opera companies, universities, conservatories, and artistic projects in Puerto Rico and around the world. Many have achieved international recognition; all carry with them the solid musical training and commitment to excellence that distinguish the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
Our campus, in the historic Miramar district, is much more than just a place where classes are held. It's a community built around music. Among gardens, rehearsal rooms, classrooms, and meeting spaces, students and faculty share an academic and artistic life that transcends the curriculum. Here, you'll find an atmosphere that inspires, challenges, and supports the growth of every student.

But an excellent musical education is never limited to mastering technique or knowledge of a discipline. The study of music cultivates sensitivity, listening skills, discipline, creativity, and respect for teamwork. That is why we aspire for our graduates to stand out not only for the quality of their artistry, but also for the way they enrich those they touch with their music.
We are living through an extraordinary moment in the Conservatory's history. We honor the legacy we have received, but we look with enthusiasm toward the future. We continue to strengthen our academic programs, expand opportunities for creation and research, develop new partnerships, and project the name of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music ever further.

If you share our love of music, I invite you to get to know our community. You will discover an institution that has successfully combined tradition with innovation, academic rigor with creativity, and artistic development with a profound human and cultural responsibility.
That, in essence, is the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music: a community where talent finds direction and musical excellence finds its purpose.
