

Wendy's and Fundación Rimas launch a call for applications for more than 40 scholarships for university students
The program ‘'The talent here is something else entirely'’ seeks to support young people in careers in music, sports and art
June 23, 2026 – Newly enrolled or currently enrolled students at universities in Puerto Rico, in disciplines of music, sports, art, or related careers, as well as high-performance athletes, may apply for the scholarship ‘'The talent here is something else entirely'’, starting on Monday, June 22, 2026, when the call for applications opens and will last six weeks.
The scholarship was created as part of a partnership between Wendy's Puerto Rico and Fundación Rimas and aims to support the talent of young people from vulnerable sectors to motivate them to pursue a university degree. The application period for the scholarship, which will award 1,440 pesos per student, opens on [date missing]. June 23 and will extend until July 31, 2026.
According to Lizmarie Medina, Chief Marketing Officer of the Puerto Rican company Grupo Colón Gerena, which holds the Wendy's franchise, “We created this alliance with Fundación Rimas to impact the lives of talented young people from vulnerable sectors of the Island. With these scholarships, we support local talent by providing our youth with the tools they need to continue their studies and remain in Puerto Rico. The level of our talent is unique, and we want to create opportunities for our musicians, artists, and athletes to believe in their abilities. These scholarships help these talented young people acquire the instruments, cameras, or materials they need, or to attend competitions or study trips that will boost their careers. We thank all our guests who contributed,” Medina emphasized.
The executive explained that Wendy's conducted three fundraising efforts, one at the "I Don't Want to Leave Here" Residence and two others at its 85 restaurants. "Puerto Rico responded, and Wendy's matched all the fundraising efforts for a total contribution of $270,000.The first funds raised were allocated to the Rimas Foundation to strengthen its educational programs. The final round of fundraising will be exclusively for university scholarships. We will be awarding more than 40 scholarships to university students throughout Puerto Rico,” Medina explained.
For his part, José Ramón Benítez, executive director of Fundación Rimas, stated, «Today we celebrate, for the second year in a row, the extraordinary success of «El Talento de Aquí es Otra Cosa» (The Talent Here is Something Else); a campaign sponsored by Wendy’s in support of Fundación Rimas” work. The effort and desire to advance a national mission have brought with them the opportunity to develop young talent in Puerto Rico in the areas of music, sports, and art. On behalf of the young people, we thank Wendy’s for their support of this great initiative,” said Benítez.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Students among those eligible to participate 18 and 24 years old Those who are about to enter or are already studying at universities or short-cycle degree institutes in Puerto Rico may apply. High-performance athletes participating in local and international competitions may also apply.
In the field of music, students of instruments, voice, composition, conducting, music education, musicology, production, sound engineering, music therapy, and related professions are welcome to apply. In the field of art, students of Fine Arts, art history, graphic design, fashion, interior design, multimedia, industrial art, animation, film, theater, dance, and related professions are welcome to participate.
The sports program may apply to students majoring in recreation and sports, sports management, coaching, nutrition, sports psychology, and related professions. The scholarship will also be awarded to high-level athletes in disciplines such as track and field, basketball, boxing, swimming, baseball, volleyball, tennis, and other sports.
