Composition Seminar by Professor Alfonso Fuentes

Last Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the Department of Humanities of the Mayagüez University Campus (RUM) received for the first time in history a visit from students of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, which were represented by the Composition Studio directed by Professor Alfonso Fuentes Colón.

This interdisciplinary exchange initiative was carried out thanks to the efforts made between Professor Fuentes Colón and Dr. José Antonio López. The students had the opportunity to offer a concert of their compositions at the Ramón Figueroa Chapel Amphitheater as part of the cultural billboard of the Mayagüez campus. At the end of the concert, the audience, made up of over 300 RUM students, had the opportunity to ask questions to the composers. The Conservatory was received with great enthusiasm by the students, faculty members and administration of the RUM.

The participating composition students - some of them also performers - were: Héctor Rodríguez Ithier, Esteban Godínez, Raúl J. Barrios, Joel A. Rodríguez and the former double bass and composition student Andrés Almodóvar. These were technically assisted by Andrés E. Pons and Nathaniel Rivera, also composition students. The performers were the Chamber Choir of the Conservatory of Music made up of: Elymar Fonseca, Guarina Mezquida, Sharlene Reyes, Carla De Jesús, Jorge J. Marrero, Héctor Y. Santos, Saúl Fantauzzi, Harry W. Ortiz, Mitchell Soto, Ariel Sánchez , Franvier Luna, Nazarene A. Núñez. And the former tuba student Gabriel Báez.
