Angelica Negron
is a composer and multi-instrumentalist born in Puerto Rico. He writes music for voices, orchestras and films, as well as for robots, toys and plants. Angélica is known for playing with the unexpected intersections between classical and electronic music, and between unusual instruments and found sounds.

Her residencies and commissions include WNYC's The Greene Space (a variety show and multimedia exploration of sound and personal history), the New York Botanical Garden (an immersive forest piece for electronic instruments and 100 voices), and Opera Philadelphia (an opera drag filmed in collaboration with Mathew Placek and Sasha Velour). Other recent commissions include works for the LA Philharmonic, NY Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Sō Percussion, Kronos Quartet, Roomful of Teeth and original music for the HBO docuseries Menudo: Forever Young.

Soon, Angélica will premiere pieces with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (with Lido Pimienta as soloist), Santa Rosa Symphony & Eugene Symphony (First Symphony Project) and the Hermitage Artist Retreat (as a recipient of the 2022 Hermitage Greenfield Prize).

Angélica works as a soloist and is a founding member of the tropical electronic band Balún. Recent performances have taken place at Big Ears Festival 2022 and at various activities in New York, San Juan, and across the country.

His musical education in composition began formally at El Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico with Alfonso Fuentes, and informally in the San Juan indie scene. He continued his studies at NYU under Pedro da Silva and at the Graduate Center (CUNY) under Tania León. Angelica is also an educator and was a teaching artist for the NY Philharmonic's Very Young Composers program (2013-2021) and Lincoln Center Education (2014-2018), where she guided young artists in creative composition projects.

Angelica lives in Brooklyn, where she spends her time inventing how to incorporate her love of drag, comedy, and nature into her work.
