Two CMPR students and one alumni win the 'Puerto Rico Classical Music Initiative 2023'

Keren Torres Díaz and her work 'Voluble', Rafael Pérez Deliz and his piece 'Tribal', and Hermelindo Ruiz Mestre and his piece 'To sore Beyond' were the winners of the first edition of the 'Puerto Rico Classical Music Initiative'. Keren Torres and Rafael Pérez are currently students at our Conservatory, while Hermenegildo Ruiz is a former high school student at CMPR. 26 young composers entered the competition's Call for Entries and the three winners were selected, after an exhaustive selection process by a jury, which was made up of composers, conductors, musicians and singers, such as Hilda Ramos, soprano, Angel 'Cucco' Peña , Roselín Pabón, professor and director of the CMPR Symphony Orchestra, and Manuel Calzada, rector of the CMPR. The three composers will receive about $2,500 as a prize and their pieces will be recorded and broadcast.

The three winning pieces will be heard, both in Puerto Rico and through the radio station All Classical Portland, in Oregon, according to Mr. Roberto Díaz, vice president of the radio stations, Allegro 91.3 FM and 940 AM, attached to the Puerto Rico Corporation for Public Broadcasting (WIPR), producers of the initiative. In fact, on Sunday, May 21, the special program was broadcast on Channel 6 in which the winners were announced and all the pieces were heard, both the participants and the winners.

We are very proud of the three winners and wish them much more success in their respective professional careers!
