Concert “Among Friends, 2nd Edition” at the Conservatory

“Among Friends, 2nd Edition” at the Conservatory

Professors Alberto Guidobaldi, Armando Ramírez, and Alberto Rodríguez Ortiz have been friends for over 20 years. Last year, they decided to put on a concert titled "Among Friends," where each of them showcased several of their compositions.

Given the success of that concert, a second edition will be held this year. The new date is February 1, 2026, at 4 pm in the Sanromá Hall of the Bertita and Guillermo Martínez Theater at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
“It’s a wonderful collaboration, where the three of us composers, as well as fellow instrumentalists, come together to bring our musical ideas to life,” says Professor Alberto Rodríguez Ortiz, who will present two works for solo guitar performed by John Rivera Pico. One of them, Introspection III – In Memoriam Yoshihisa Taira, will be a world premiere.

Armando Ramírez will also present two works: The Black Cat for solo tuba and Transformations for harp and cello. “The Black Cat is violent and dramatic in nature. It is inspired by the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. On the other hand, Transformations is dedicated in memory of cancer patients and their loved ones.”
”Different reactions to the disease,” Professor Ramírez tells us. The performers will be Elisa Torres on the harp, Luis Miguel Rojas on the cello, and Gabriel Báez on the tuba.

Professor Alberto Guidobaldi will present three works: three lullabies, three Franciscan miniatures, and an aria from his new opera, Eva Luna. Professor Guidobaldi will be at the piano, while the singers will be Zulimar López and Ricardo Sepúlveda, both professors at the Conservatory. The Genoese composer speaks about his works: “In the three lullabies, I use texts by the Argentinian composer Javier Villafañe.”.

The aria from Eva Luna is a world premiere, while the 3 Franciscan miniatures are based on episodes from the life of St. Francis of Assisi.”.

The concert concludes with this work, which will be performed by Camerata Caribe.
