The second call for research grants from the UNESCO Pau Casals Chair opens

  • The period for submitting applications will be from March 14 to May 12 (until 11:59 p.m.).
  • Each scholarship has a financial award of €2,000.
  • The theme of the scholarship works can focus on the figure and musical or humanistic legacy of Casals, but it is also open to other topics such as, for example, the values that the musician defended throughout his life: human rights, culture of peace and international justice, among others.
The Pau Casals UNESCO Chair for music, the defense of peace and human rights, a project created in 2022 in an agreement between the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and the Pau Casals Foundation, opens its second call for research grants with the aim of promoting research and knowledge about the musical and humanistic legacy of Pau Casals. 

These scholarships are not restricted to the figure of Casals, but are also open to topics related to the values that the musician defended throughout his life, such as human rights, the culture of peace, international justice or the role of music and culture in conflict prevention and social cohesion, in accordance with the 2030 sustainable development strategy.

Participation is open to students and research staff from all over the world. Research projects related to final master's or postgraduate projects, work associated with a doctoral thesis or any research linked to a university can be submitted.

The UNESCO Pau Casals Chair offers a financial award of €2,000 to each of the scholarships, as well as support and accompaniment from a commission of experts, and access to the Pau Casals documentary collection, located in the National Archive of Catalonia, among other benefits. . 

The call will be open from March 14 to May 12, 2024. The resolution of the qualifying selection committee will be before June 14, 2024 and the scholarship recipients must submit the final research project before June 1 of 2025. 

The UNESCO Pau Casals Chair will open these scholarships annually to promote research.
