Audition requirements for the Bachelor of Music in Performance with a concentration in Orchestral Instruments (Woodwinds, brass and percussion)

Note: The applicant must demonstrate the ability to produce correct embouchure and the characteristic sound of the instrument. It is recommended that the audition be accompanied by a pianist. For all instruments, major and minor scales and their arpeggios with different articulations are required.

 

Woods

Flute

  1. Two contrasting studies by Andersen, Op. 37 or Op. 41 or by Kohler, Op.332
  2. Three works with piano accompaniment, representative of the Baroque, Classical/Romantic and French School Periods
  3. Major and minor scales
  4. Sight reading

Oboe

  1. Major and minor scales and theirarpeggios
  2. Barret Method: first ten melodies
  3. A work from the baroque period (Handel, Albinoni, Telemann)
  4. Sight reading

Clarinet

  1. Major and minor scales and their arpeggios
  2. Two studies from H. Voxman's Selected Studies
  3. A work from the classical repertoire for clarinet with piano accompaniment
  4. Sight reading

Bassoon

  1. Major and minor scales and their arpeggios
  2. Weissenborn Method or Milde Scale Studies exercise
  3. A piece from the classical bassoon repertoire
  4. Sight reading

saxophone

  1. Major and minor scales and their arpeggios
  2. Perform two (2) pieces or fragments of difficulty equivalent to first year saxophone (Rascher Collection). They can be studies of Selected Studies (Rubank), Small, Larry Teal Solos for Alto Saxophone, Voxman Concerto and Contest (have additional copy available for the jury)

  2. Perform a piano piece from JB Arban's 12 Celebrated Fantasies to choose from:

  3. A study containing notable and legato passages of medium difficulty in correct style

Percussion

The audition must be submitted in one or more of the following categories:

Snare Drum

  1. Demonstration of the Orchestral and Rudimental roll with pulse or allib dynamics. Presentation of the 40 rudiments with dynamics with a metronome mark from 60 to 120 quarter notes and from slow to fast (in the book) and/or its equivalent
  2. Solos and/or studies by J. Delacluse, A. Cirone, G. Whaley, J. Pratt or their equivalents
  3. Orchestral repertoire and/or its equivalent
  4. Sight reading

melodic percussion

  1. Solos and/or studies by M. Goldberg, A. Cirone, M. Peters, JS Bach and/or equivalents.
  2. Major and minor scales with their arpeggios to two (2) octaves to two drumsticks. Scales and arpeggios in metronome mark from 60 to 120 quarter notes
  3. Orchestra repertoire and/or its equivalent
  4. Sight reading

Timpani

  1. Solos and/or studies by S. Goodman, G. Whaley, A. Cirone, M.Peters and/or their equivalent
  2. Orchestra repertoire and/or its equivalent
  3. Tuning/intervals

Multiple percussion

  1. A single minimum of two instruments and/or their equivalent

 

IMPORTANT: Passing the audition does not necessarily guarantee that the student will finally be admitted. Admission to the Conservatory of Music is subject to the candidate meeting the average, all admission requirements and the availability of spaces in the requested study program. A waiting list will be created in the case of those studies where the number of admitted students exceeds the available spaces. If assigned to a waiting list, appointments will be announced via regular mail. Your enrollment is not guaranteed for the academic year in which you applied. If there are no spaces available in the waiting studio, the student must apply and audition again for the next academic year.
